Problem

Students frequently work late hours on campus, yet struggle to access healthy food during these times. Vending machines and fast food are often the only available options, offering limited nutrition and inconsistent availability. The disconnect between when students need food and when nutritious options are accessible creates a real barrier to their well-being and academic performance.

Solution

Flight Byte addresses this gap by proposing a late-night food delivery ecosystem designed for students. By combining localised food preparation, automated distribution, and drone-based delivery, the system enables consistent access to healthy meals across diverse campus locations, even during off-hours. This removes barriers between students' working patterns and nutritious food availability.

Flight Byte is a food delivery ecosystem designed to support students working late on campus, where access to healthy food is often limited. Extended hours in studios, workshops, and academic halls are common, yet food availability during these times is inconsistent. Flight Byte aligns access to healthy and nutritious food with student schedules, providing a dependable alternative during late hours.

The system is organised around a centralised cloud kitchen that enables consistent preparation and efficient distribution. A collection pavilion functions as the delivery hub, coordinating drone dispatch and arrivals while remaining integrated into the campus environment. Food is distributed across campus through planned delivery routes, reaching dorms, studios, and workspaces directly. Drop-off points are positioned to minimise disruption and allow quick access, supporting continued focus during long work sessions.

The system delivers on key student needs through intentional design decisions:

Clean & Healthy Options: Flight Byte provides access to fresh, nutritious meals specifically prepared for late-night availability, moving beyond vending machines and limited fast food to support sustained energy and wellbeing during extended study sessions.

Convenient & Diverse Menu: Multiple food options are available to accommodate different dietary preferences, allergies and needs, ensuring students can find meals that help them feel good and stay focused at night.

Fast & Secure Delivery: Drone-based distribution enables quick delivery speeds with secure drop-off and pickup points strategically positioned across campus, minimising wait times and allowing students to return to their work without disruption.

Rather than treating late-night food access as an afterthought, Flight Byte integrates into the rhythm of campus life. The system operates quietly in the background, providing reliable service when students need it most. By aligning food availability with actual working patterns, it supports the health and productivity of students during their most demanding hours—turning a persistent gap in campus infrastructure into a dependable resource for focused, sustained work.
