Problem
Dog owners face a persistent challenge: their work schedules require leaving their dogs alone for 8-10 hours daily. During this time, dogs experience anxiety and boredom, leading to destructive behaviours that impact both the animal's well-being and the owner's home environment. While pet care products exist in the market, dog owners need a comprehensive solution that addresses their dog's mental, physical, and emotional needs during their absence.
Solution
Pawmate is an interactive robot companion that maintains the owner-dog bond during work hours. Through calm, predictable interactions, it delivers structured mental stimulation, physical play, and emotional reassurance that respect dog behavioural patterns, and aid in maintaining the human-dog bond.By integrating sensory comfort, active engagement, and positive reinforcement into one system, Pawmate transforms isolated hours into an enriching routine.
Pawmate is an interactive robot companion designed to bridge the distance between owner and dog. By moving away from the aesthetic of traditional tech, it adopts a clean, refined form that integrates naturally into the home. It functions as a persistent physical connection that ensures the bond between owner and dog remains active, even when the owner is away or at work.

Instead of jarring a dog with loud alerts or frantic movement, Pawmate offers calm and predictable interactions that respect their natural rhythm. It stays in the background, unassuming and reliable, turning the stress of an empty house into a stable routine. By focusing on how a dog actually experiences being alone, the design reframes remote care from a chore driven by observation into something deliberate and thoughtful.
The design translates this connection into a series of intentional physical, mental, and sensory touchpoints.
Mental & Sensory Presence: The interface uses an expressive face panel and two-way audio to provide a familiar presence for the dog. To support this, an integrated scent diffuser releases calming aromas that reduce anxiety. This focuses on psychological comfort, breaking the silence of an empty house with sights, sounds, and smells that signal safety.
Physical Play & Stimulation: For active engagement, the owner can remotely trigger an integrated ball cannon to initiate a game of fetch. The product is built with active body movements, turning and shifting to interact with the dog during play. This provides the physical exertion and movement dogs need to stay healthy and balanced while alone.
Positive Reinforcement: A precision treat dispenser allows for small rewards in real-time. Whether it's a reward for being active or a simple "hello," it provides a tangible link between the owner's phone and the home. This makes remote care a rewarding, two-way ritual for both the owner and the dog.
Pawmate isn't just a gadget to monitor dogs. It's a physical medium for active care, transforming hours of owner absence into structured multi-layered engagement that maintains and reinforces the owner-dog bond across distance.
